New Theory: Men May Have Evolved Poor Hearing to Avoid Nagging
While hearing tends to decline with age, scientists have now uncovered something unexpected.
“We were very surprised to find that women had better hearing across every population group we tested,” says Professor Roger Earblind from the University of Smalltown. “But if you turn it around, maybe it’s not quite as surprising as we were surprised to discover.”
"What do you mean by that?” we ask, somewhat baffled.
“Well,” Professor Earblind explains, “from an evolutionary standpoint, there’s speculation that men have simply evolved to hear less as a survival mechanism. Imagine this: over the last 200,000 years, men have been told to take out the trash, get their feet off the table, and fix one thing after another. In that context, bad hearing becomes an advantage—just nod, smile, and keep watching the game.”
