Massive tax cuts for yacht owners will benefit everyone, claims the Us with Yachts party
Us with Yachts (UwY) proposes a new economic plan to scrap taxes for the rich, and watch the public coffers overflow.
Party leader Ta-Mai I Häcken is crystal clear in her proposal: “Full tax exemption for wealthy yacht owners is the most effective policy,” she tells Smalltown Magazine, “but deep cuts are a great start.”
Her logic draws from the well-worn playbook of trickle-down economics1 - the idea that wealth eventually drips down from the rich to the rest of society..
“Trickle-down works brilliantly when you’re on a flybridge1,” Häcken adds, pouring herself a chilled Chardonnay while reclining aboard her 58-foot motor yacht. “It’s good policy and even better sailing.”
When asked what this would actually mean for regular folks in Smalltown, she offers a breezy explanation:
“It’s simple. If people like me pay less, or no taxes, the municipality will end up with more money.”
Skeptical? We were too.
“But if you stop paying taxes, doesn’t that mean less revenue?” we ask.
“That’s where creativity comes in,” Häcken smiles. “The municipality just needs to raise taxes on ordinary people. There are so many of them, and they earn so little, they’ll barely notice.”
1 Trickle-down economics is a term for an economic policy that favors the upper end of the economic spectrum.
2 The flybridge is an open deck on a cabin cruiser or yacht that is located above the bridge on the cabin roof, and usually has a duplicate set of navigational equipment.
